What's to get excited about!

Hungary has long been on our radar and we’re delighted to finally welcome it to our list of group holidays for 2027. It’s a country steeped in history, tradition and incredible architecture and there’s fewer capital cities in the world that have shot to prominence for travellers the way Budapest has over the last two decades. So we thought it was time to find out what all the fuss was about!

We’ll begin our week by flying directly into Budapest where we’ll pick up our hired minibus before checking into the Nyerges Hotel Termál Superior, the largest thatched-roof hotel in central Europe! Set amongst country gardens on the city outskirts, it will provide the ideal base for us to start our itinerary which we believe will be as equally varied as it will be fascinating. A guided walking tour of the city will kick things off, allowing us to really immerse ourselves into our surroundings and get to know our home for the next week. Plus, seeing as the River Danube flows through the heart of Budapest, we thought it would be a nice idea to enjoy a leisurely river cruise along it, which again will allow us to see more of Hungary’s picturesque capital.

Budpapest has many museums and we’ve chosen two to visit; namely the Terror Museum and The Hospital In The Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum. Both of these delve deep into Hungary’s troubled history and tell incredible stories of the horror of war, yet also reveals miraculous tales of heroism whilst aiming to demonstrate the true value of peace.

Another big attraction in Budapest are the Széchenyi Thermal Baths. The water is provided by two thermal springs and the backdrop to this amazing facility is just draw-dropping. We’ll be visiting and taking a calming dip in the baths whilst savouring the environment we find ourselves in. Just magical.

Finally, after flying, driving, walking, cruising and splashing our way through the first six days of our trip, we’ll end it with a wonderful train journey on the Gyermekvasút Children’s Railway Line. As the name suggests it is uniquely operated by children (with adult supervision of course), and is a narrow-gauge line that runs between Széchenyihegy and Hűvösvölgy. With multiple stops en-route, our journey will allow us to see some lesser spotted parts of the city and a lovely way to finish our week off.

Where you'll be staying...

The Nyerges Hotel Termál Superior will be looking after us the entire week. Traditionally furnished it offers free Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, air conditioning as well as a games room, day spa and thermal pools all within the hotel grounds.

Food, glorious food!

We’ll begin each day by dining at the hotel by way of their buffet style breakfast. Packed lunches will be organised for when we’re out and about and in the evenings we will be catered for dinner by the hotel.

Travel

We will meet at a London airport and you will be supported on the flight to the Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest and likewise on our return journey. The use of our hired minibus will be used to transport us all to each activity daily.

Itineray

Day 1 – Flight from London to Budapest, travel to our accommodation via hired minibus and settle in.

Day 2 – A guided walking tour of Budapest

Day 3 – Terror Museum and Hospital In The Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum

Day 4 – Budapest Széchenyi Thermal Spa

Day 5 – Rest Day – A day with no fixed schedule, allowing us to rest a little and decide between us how we’d like to spend the day.

Day 6 – Danube River Cruise

Day 7 – Gyermekvasút Children’s Railway

Day 8 – Travel back to the UK.
