Bram Stoker fired up our imaginations back in 1897 when he published his acclaimed novel, Dracula. He created a world inhabited by blood sucking vampires in gothic castles all in mysterious and sinister Transylvania.
Count Dracula, thought to be based on the 15th Century Prince of Wallachia – Vlad the Impaler, was the notorious owner of a castle in Transylvania, near a small village called Bran. This is now reputed to be the dark home of Dracula.
This fascinating holiday will take you on a gothic tour of Transylvania, taking in two famous castles. Naturally, Dracula’s dwelling in Bran, and also Cantacuzino Castle, where the recent supernatural Netflix series – Wednesday, based on the character Wednesday Addams from the Addams family, was filmed.
Whilst here, we will also explore the local city of Brasov, visiting the Black Church and communist museum, and take a cable car up to the nearby mountain for panoramic, spooky views over Transylvania. We will also have time to visit another landmark, Rasnov Castle, with its Dinosaur Park that houses 120 life sized dinosaurs. Transylvania is also famous for its Brown Bears, therefore we will be taken to a special hide accompanied by a qualified wildlife guide to watch these beautiful beasts in their native environment, the Carpathian Mountains.
