We invite you to our first summer in the north-west of France, and the Celtic region of Brittany. We will be based in the beautiful, small central village of Mellionnec, where we’ll be staying in a large gite named A La Belle Etoile (The Beautiful Star). The gite was renovated in 2022 and was formerly an old presbytery but is now a beautiful and modern auberge, situated in this small, alternative and progressive community.
This holiday will be an exploration, delving into Breton culture with visits to the nearby 11th century Chateau de Josselin, a beautiful French chateau with 9 towers set along the Nantes-Brest canal. We will take the small train called the tire-bouchon (corkscrew) from Auray to the Quiberon peninsula and spend the day on the beach. Not far from Mellionnec, we will visit a refuge for French wolves, a unique sanctuary that cares for these stunning animals. We will also take you down to the south Atlantic coast for a 2-hour boat trip up the river Odet and spend a day in the town of Quimper, visiting the famous Saint Corentin Cathedral, the art museum and take a stroll around the old town. Finally, we will pay a visit to the strange world of Univers du Poète Ferrailleur (The Universe of a Poet’s Junkyard!), a fascinating place unlike anywhere else, featuring a series of automatons made from old household materials that can be activated by a series of buttons and levers.
We cannot wait to explore Brittany with you, and we just know this holiday will stay with you long after you have gone home!!
